WOW!! was my response when I saw the amazing job a fellow church member did on the door handle I found at the Village Salvage in Waynesville. Beautiful and amazing!
They have a TON of door parts. But they said I needed to get the existing lock mechanism out of the door and bring it down to ensure a perfect fit. Sounds easy, right? No. My husband and I tried to get the mechanism out but couldn’t figure it out. Then came Larry and Don, two talented carpentry minded men from church who made it their mission to get this door operating correctly again. Finally the entire lock was out and we were able to make a trip back to Waynesville. Josh at Village Salvage was great. He took the parts I had and pulled everything together. He even had a door handle that fit the exiting holes in the door AND had the octagon shaped rosettes I needed to match! (It was a God thing! Sooo Cool!) Once back home, Don went to work to get the handle and lock back in. The new lock and key (smaller component than the whole locking mechanism) was a little short because of the thickness of the door and octagonal rosette, so he set off to find one that would work. Once we had everything we needed, we set up a time for him to put it all back together while I was a work. Little did I know he was going to polish everything too! Look at that beauty!! Who knew there was a diamond under those years of tarnish. What a showpiece. Shout out to my husband, Larry and Don for all of the effort in getting this door working again. I am so thankful to have people in my life who appreciate treasures like these, and although old, make them shine again! Do you have a treasure that you have brought back to life? Or maybe you have treasures like these three men :) I would love to hear your story. Share in the comments below. |
