Shop downtown on Friday and enjoy a free lunch from hometown bank The Peoples Savings & Loan Company. They'll be grilling out and offering free food and drinks to everyone from 11-4 in downtown West Liberty. Then, on Friday night, it's Adriel Family Fun Night and Senior Night at the West Liberty-Salem Tigers' home football finale vs. West Jefferson.
Saturday starts with Adriel's Annual Benefit Auction. In addition to all of the beautiful handmade quilts, crafts, and other unique items, there will also be a "West Liberty Getaway Giveaway." Some West Liberty businesses have put together a tote bag of gift certificates for a fun getaway in West Liberty to be auctioned off at the Adriel auction. It includes a 1-night stay at Bobbi’s Bungalow guest house and gift cards to Liberty Gathering Place, Sweetie Pie’s, Hillside Greenhouse, Kara Lynn’s, and a pass to visit Ohio Caverns beautifully displayed in an Ohio tote bag from Dorcey’s Flowers. After the auction, it's West Liberty's Annual Tour of Homes from 12-4pm on Saturday, and on Saturday evening, there is a wonderful benefit dinner for the Piron Family on Saturday evening at WL-S. The Piron's are a local family living in the Houston area who lost almost everything in Hurricane Harvey. Have a meal, enjoy some live, local music for a good cause! Enjoy the weekend everyone! Chicago and Wow! It is hard to believe that Bobbi’s Bungalow has been open for guests for a full year now. It has been an amazing year meeting new people from all over the country and creating new friends both from afar and locally. My very first guests were young men in town for a wedding – the dashing groom from Nebraska marrying a lovely Bellefontaine girl, along with a few of his handsome groomsmen. I have met artists and musicians from Chicago and California, an avid bicycler from Alaska, and a business man from Boston traveling through the area.
Because of Ohio Caverns and the Piatt Castles, I have hosted vacationing families from Michigan and Indiana. Mad River Mountain Ski Resort has brought me visitors from the Cincinnati and Columbus areas. The Champaign Aviation Museum allowed me to host their speaker, Doctor and astronaut Rhea Seddon and her husband and fellow astronaut Hoot Gibson. I have welcomed home Logan and Champaign County natives who haven’t been back in a very long time for funerals, weddings and reunions. And Green Hills Community residents are so very appreciative to have a place nearby that visiting family can stay since they have downsized and don’t have the extra space. This is just a short compilation of people I have met, and I wish I could mention everyone, as I appreciate each and every one who has stayed, but I will move on… I also appreciate the West Liberty community and local Chambers of Commerce. I have enjoyed being part of the business community in a different way than before. I hadn’t been called “Bobbi” since I was a young kid, and it has been interesting how, even people that know me, are now calling me Bobbi because of this little bungalow’s name. I look forward to the next year of visitors to my little 1920’s bungalow. Blessings to you all! ~Roberta
However, we had a great time, and I had no problem keeping up with a 12 year old. We had two young ladies as our guides to make sure we could get through the obstacles, and it was a blessing to have them. They gave us tips on how to complete the more challenging obstacles – like the one that spun you around when you stepped on it, or when we got stuck on a rope course with (in our minds) no way to move forward or turn around! We cheated a little by skipping a couple of higher and more challenging ones. I was feeling pretty brave trusting the harness would keep me from falling to my demise, but my son wasn’t as confident. If you aren’t too afraid of heights, and are looking for a fun family activity that isn’t just “looking at things,” as my son was trying to avoid, I would recommend this one. And the zoo becomes an added benefit. We wandered the zoo the next couple of hours and enjoyed our day. While in Toledo, we stayed at a popular hotel chain. It had been fairly recently remodeled, and the room was nice and clean. We shared the pool, hot tub and continental breakfast with other guests. It was pretty typical for a hotel. Although the standard room was given to us as $117/night, the total for one night with taxes and fees came to just over $138. At Bobbi’s Bungalow, you get an entire 2-bedroom house to yourself for about the same price as the cookie cutter hotel room we got for $117. No sharing with other guests here! And at the Bungalow, you get a peaceful stay at a “home away from home” with no worries. Enjoy locally roasted coffee on the front porch at your leisure or stroll downtown for a home cooked breakfast at the local diner. You can even experience a zip line adventure like the one we did in Toledo just a few miles north of the Bungalow at Markin Farms Zipline Adventures. [See More Local Attractions] Call me to book your next visit to the Bellefontaine/West Liberty/Urbana area. The front porch swing is ready, and I’d love to meet you!
As Dr. Seddon was getting ready for her speaking engagement, my son and I visited with Hoot and got to hear some of his space stories. It was a joy to talk with him and compare our similar family stories. Ok, I've never flown in space, but have taken flying lessons and have family members who are pilots. Both of our fathers are pilots, and our sons have ATC (air traffic control) background, so we had some fun things to talk about. The following weekend I hosted a Southwest Airline pilot and his family. He has military background that includes being an Air Force One Advance Agent, taking care of the logistics of piloting very important people. I will admit that he is family😊, and although under sad circumstances of the loss of a loved one, it was a pleasure to have them stay at the bungalow. Somehow I missed hosting a pilot during the B-25 Gathering at Grimes Airport the third weekend of April. I'll have to work on that for their next event!
You can check out the the B-25 "Champaign Gal" and the restoration of our B-17 "Champaign Lady," at the Champaign Aviation Museum and also visit the Grimes Flying Lab. Both the National Museum of the USAF and the Armstrong Air and Space Museum are less than an hour away. And I have a cute little place to stay the night. There is so much to do here. It is worth the visit!
Logan County's top winter attraction Mad River Mountain officially opens for business today! Bobbi's Bungalow would be a great cozy retreat after a day of skiing or tubing at Mad River Mountain. The bungalow and downtown West Liberty is less than 10 miles away from fun on the mountain! Bobbi's Bungalow is beautifully decorated for the holidays! Call or Contact Us today to schedule your weekend getaway! Greetings from West Liberty, Ohio and Bobbi's Bungalow! We have had an amazing autumn with unseasonably warm temperatures, and I have enjoyed every minute! The trees have just passed their peak fall colors, and the leaves are starting to fall. My son and I had a great time raking leaves on Saturday. He is 11, and unfortunately for him, the piles we rake at our home are mostly pine needles. So the beautiful orange and red maple leaves at the bungalow were great place to pounce and hide. I have had a few guests that are leaving reviews in places other than on my Facebook page, and I wanted to share them with you. Austin from California says: “This is a beautiful home! It's comfortable, perfectly restored and decorated. Roberta is a great host. She greeted us with homemade cookies, which were as wonderful as her home. Every detail is perfect here from the linens to the furniture. We'll definitely be back! This is one of the nicest Airbnb's I've stayed at.” Matthew from California says: “This was such an incredible place. Roberta was SO accommodating! She stopped by to say hi and we couldn't have felt more at home. The place it self has such a special feel of relaxation and cleanliness that makes you wish you could stay there for a much longer time than planned. The town is also extremely charming... highly recommend staying here! ” Amber from Ohio says: Bobbi's Bungalow was amazing. It was literally like stepping back in time. The house was very clean, and decorated in such a peaceful and lovey manner. I truly did not want to leave! The home is located close to police, fire, and EMS so I felt very safe. I was able to easily walk up the street to the local ice cream shop. The noise from the highway was noticeable but did not disrupt or interfere with my stay. Every room was cozy and inviting and the front porch swing was perfect for reading and just relaxing. Roberta was a very kind and gracious host. She was very easy to communicate with and very accessible. I could tell she takes pride in her B n B home! I appreciate each of these reviews and am so glad guests are enjoying their time in West Liberty and at Bobbi's Bungalow. I hope you will come visit me soon too! Blessings to you! Roberta Are you ready to escape the chaos and plan a fall retreat from life? Peak fall foliage in Ohio is mid-October, and Logan County’s rolling hills are beautiful this time of year. This is a perfect time to travel. There is so much to do! A must for your activities list is to zip through the Markin Farms Zipline Adventures. I suggest scheduling your zip for the sunset tour – a great thing to do with your sweetheart! What fun! If you like the more spooky side of October, plan your visit for the weekend of October 22 & 23 to catch Ghosts & Goblins: Literature to Scare and Delight, a traditional event at The Piatt Castles. The Logan County History Center also has a Halloween Kidsfest for kids ages 4-12 on the same weekend. For another fun family event, I would recommend the scenic drive to Marmon Valley Farm for their Harvest Roundup. Your kids will love the pony rides and hay ride, along with visiting farm animals and playing in the hay tunnels. Since there are just too many things to do in one day, you will want to start your weekend at Bobbi’s Bungalow. Check into the Bungalow on Friday afternoon, order pizza delivery from one of the local pizzerias, and then saunter up the brick sidewalks of the village of West Liberty to the Ice Cream Parlor for their seasonal Pumpkin ice cream. Dream sweet dreams in the luxurious linens on pillow top beds, and start your morning with a fresh, hot cup of coffee or English Breakfast tea on the from porch swing. Then it is time to go exploring! Make a long weekend trip to West Liberty for your fall getaway. The craziness of the Christmas season is just around the corner, so plan for your retreat today. Special Note: Saturday, October 15th is the annual Adriel Quilt Auction and the West Liberty Home Tour. I would encourage you to visit us this weekend! Bobbi’s Bungalow will be on the tour, so if you are looking for a day trip, this would be a great weekend as well. The house is not available for rent on Friday night in preparation of the tour, but it is currently available for a late Saturday check in. Give me a call to book your stay today! It's official...I have received my first payment for 5 ladies to stay a week in the Bungalow in July. The pressure is on to get it done!! If anyone has 1920's memorabilia, let me know. I'd love to showcase it.
